Getting Some Love From the NYIT Awards
Imagine my surprise to find this item on Martin Denton’s blog yesterday: my name mentioned on the New York Innovative Theatre Awards’ list of the “Top 7 biggest stories that affected off-off-Broadway in 2007.″ The specific citation was for the celebration of nytheatre.com’s 10th anniversary this past summer. Here it is:
nytheatre.com celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2007. Martin Denton, Rochelle Denton and their team are establishing themselves as THE most comprehensive resource of indie theatre. Denton posted on his December 3rd blog that nytheatre has reviewed 911 shows! But even more exciting is the in-depth coverage via the nytheatrecast. Denton, Michael Criscuolo, and Trav S.D. alternate in hosting a diverse number of artists on the podcasts. It’s a wonderful way to hear from the artists directly, reminding us of the amazingly different projects and ideas that are shaping the indie theatre landscape.
To borrow a phrase from Martin, recognition like this is enormously gratifying, especially for something that we all have so much fun doing. And to be mentioned like this alongside Martin - who has been a good friend, a loyal supporter, and a mentor to me for a long time now - is an honor. So, my thanks to Nancy Kim and all the good folks at the NYIT Awards for the early Christmas present. You can read the full story here.
Naturally, this would be a good time to pimp out some of our podcasts. If you haven’t listened to one in a while (or ever!) then I can’t think of a better time to do so. Some of the recent highlights include:
-
Martin’s announcement of nytheatre.com’s 2007 People of the Year - “15 theatre artists/companies that made significant contributions to the cultural landscape of NYC last year.”
-
Trav’s burlesque roundtable discussion with Nasty Canasta, Julie Atlas Muz, and Bonnie Dunn.
-
My Indie Theater Life interview with actor Debargo Sanyal about his career and his latest show, the Charles Mee musical Queens Boulevard, now playing at Signature Theatre Company.
And for more where that came from, you can always check us out at the official nytheatrecast home page, which I totally encourage you to do.
